CHINASOFT 2003
Hosted by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (hereinafter referred to as CCPIT), Chengdu Municipal Government, CHINASOFT 2003 was held in Chengdu International Exhibition Center on March 26-28, 2003. More than 260 software players (including 47 foreign delegates, 20 foreign companies) from 8 countries and regions, i.e., U.S.A, India, Japan, South Korea, France, Ireland, Germany and Taiwan as well as 18 Chinese cities have participated. Two matchmaking meetings were arranged between American and Indian companies and domestic counterparts during the event.
Speakers of CHINASOFT 2003 included Mr. Ken Wasch, President of American Software & Information Industry Association, Mr. Bruce E. Bernstein, President of New York Software Industry Association, Mr. Seo Jung Uck, Former Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology of South Korea, Mr. Tang Jun, President of Microsoft (China) Co., Ltd, Mr. Joseph Ma, General Manager in Southwest Branch of IBM China Ltd., Ms. Chun Soon deug, Chairman of Kyong gi Venture Association, Mr. Wang Zhongzheng, Chairman of Taiwan Zhonghua Software Association, Mr. Ryuichiro Hirota, Chairman of Sino-Japanese Economical Exchange Association, Mr. Rahoul Ghose, Director of Information Systems, Honeywell and Mr. Alexander I. Rosenthal, Director of Center for Information Technology, National Institutes of Health, U.S.A.
American Software & Information Industry Association and Indian Embassy in China organised delegations to the event. Mr.Liu Jiuru, President of China ComputerWorld, commented: “CHINASOFT is the most international software event I have ever seen in West China”.
CHINASOFT 2004
CHINASOFT 2004 was held at Chengdu International Convention & Exposition Centre on April 5-7, 2004 with the sponsorship of CCPIT, Sichuan Provincial Government, and Chengdu Municipal Government, and the organisation of CCPIT Economic & Information Industry Dept, CCPIT Chengdu Sub-council, and Computer World Media Group.
With the theme of China Software Industry in Globalization, the event attracted over 300 representatives from over 20 provinces, cities, and regions as well as 112 representatives of 47 overseas companies from 12 countries and regions e.g. USA, India, ROK, Singapore, Canada, UK, Netherlands, Japan, Chinese HK, and Taiwan. The event held exhibitions for the first time, with an area of 6,000 sqm, attracting a large number of international and domestic companies including SUN and Oracle. Overseas companies occupied as many as 45 standard booths, accounting for 35% of total booths. Around 5,000 professionals visited the exhibition. 17 well-known celebrities in software industry e.g. Mr Xue Yaokun CEO of Sun (China), Mr Chen Yongzheng Vice President of Microsoft, Mr Xu Shaochun Chairman of Kingdee International Software Group Co., Ltd, Li Shaotang Executive Director of East China Group, Oracle, and Mr He Huajing CEO of UFIDA Software Co Ltd etc delivered their speeches.
A series of seminars including “National Information Management of Key Cities across China”, “Information Security”, “Copyright Tracking of Music & Video Device”, “Singapore-Chengdu E-Government and City Information-based Communication and Cooperation Symposium”, “SUN Microsystems Solution Conference”, and “UF Software Summit on Western Manufacturing” were held during the event.
CHINASOFT 2005
CHINASOFT 2005 was held at Chengdu International Exhibition Center on April 20 to 22, 2005. With the theme of China, New Outsourcing Destination, CHINASOFT 2005 involved theme forum, panel discussions, matchmakings and onsite visit, etc.
CHINASOFT 2005 attracted near 260 software players of Chinese and foreign software companies and organizations from 6 countries and religions, including U.S.A, India, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan, China, etc, and 18 provinces, cities and region in China such as Beijing, Dalian, Shanghai, Tianjin, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Shenzhen, Changsha, Xi’an, etc.
Concurrent activities included “Matchmaking Session for Chinese and Foreign Software Companies”, “2005 China Digital Entertainment Industry Summit”, “Signing ceremony for Cooperation between Indian TATA/CMC and Goldtel”, “Award Ceremony for Talent Training Base of Digital Entertainment Industry for National Torch Project”.
Speakers included Mr. Craig Mundie, Senior Vice President, Chief Technical Officer of Microsoft, Mr. Liu Jiren, Chairman & CEO of Neusoft Group Ltd., Mr. J. Parthasarthy, Addition Director of STPI-Bangalore, India, Mr. V Rajanna, General Manager of TATA Information Technology (Shanghai), Mr. James Lin, CEO of Infosys China, Mr. Frank Xiong, Vice President, General Manager of BEA and Mr. Qu Zhonghua, Service Offering Manager Consulting, IGS Education Services, GCG, IBM.
Mr. Li Chuncheng, Party Secretary of CPC Chengdu Committee, complimented that CHINASOFT played an increasingly important role in promoting the development of IT and software industry in Chengdu and Sichuan when he met the forum speakers during the event.
CHINASOFT 2006
With the sponsorship of the State Council Informatisation Office, CCPIT, and Sichuan Provincial Government, and the organisation of Chengdu Municipal Government, CHINASOFT 2006 was held at Chengdu International Convention & Exposition Centre on April 6-7, 2006. Echoing the trends that international software outsourcing shifts to China at a fast pace, the theme of the event was “shared resources, cooperation and innovation, and harmonious development”. Diversified activities such as summit, session and dialogue, technical seminars, match-makings, site visits, exhibition were held during the event.
CHINASOFT 2006 invited nearly 300 leading software players from software companies and organizations both home and abroad, including 7 countries and region of U.S.A., India, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong,China, Taiwan, China, and 18 provinces, municipalities and region, Beijing, Dalian, Shanghai, Tianjin, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Shenzhen, Changsha, Xi’an, etc.
A series of activities were included “Software Industry Summit”, “The Malaysia Day: Sino-Malaysian Information Communications Industry Conference”, “Software & Information Service Outsourcing Forum”, “Digital Entertainment Industry Development Summit Forum”, “Investment Forum of International Capital & Software Industry”, “Match-making Session between Chinese and Foreign Software Companies”, “Software Talents Seminar”, “Chengdu - Bangalore Sistership City Relationship Signing Ceremony”, “Establishment of Chengdu Software Outsourcing Alliance Ceremony”, “Software Exhibition”. The 2005 Top Ranking of Chinese Software Companies in Export was released and the Awarding Ceremony of Top-20 Chinese Software Companies in Outsourcing in 2005 was held during the event.

Near 30 overseas software companies or organizations, such as Microsoft, IMB, SAP, Amazon.com, SAIF, HSBC Private Equity (Asia) Limited, Johnson & Johnson, Symbio, KPMG, Multi-Media Super Corridor Malaysia, OMRON Corporation, Nomura Research Institute and MCM Corporation, etc from 7 countries and region joined CHINASOFT 2006. Companies from Japan included OMRON Corporation, URL.TV Corporation, MCM Corporation, Yinfeilite, Dream Career, ShibaSoft Corporation, GR, etc. and more than 30 leading domestic outsourcing vendors including Neusoft Group, iSoftStone Information Service Corporation, Dalian Hi-Think Computer Technology Co., Ltd, Shanghai JT-Hyron Software Co. Ltd, Hisoft Technology International Group, CHINASOFT International Limited, etc, and Sofmit Company, Intasect Inc, have participated with the tremendous fruits achieved.
CHINASOFT has widely recognized as the most international software cooperation platform in West China after four years’ development.
CHINASOFT 2007 CHINASOFT 2007, supported by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, State Council Informatization Office, State intellectual Property Office, Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, Ministry of Information Industry and hosted by Chengdu Municipal People’s Government, CHINASOFT 2007 was held successfully on April 19-21, 2007 in Chengdu. The conference focuses on the theme of “Cross-industrial Interaction, Innovation and Development” and the tenet of “strengthening international exchange and cooperation of China’s software industry”, has conducted a series of activities of forum, exhibition, negotiation and contest which acquired newer development and breakthrough compared with the former four
conferences in its scale, class, content and format etc.
1. Extensive activities e.g. forum, exhibition, one-to-one meeting, and contest
1) Forum: 11 summits and seminars, attracting nearly 700 overseas representatives, among which there were 100-strong from Japan, Singapore, India, USA, and Taiwan. Over 100 renowned manufacturers e.g. Microsoft, Intel, Oracle, IBM, SAP, HP, NEC, EMC, EDS, IDG, GGL, Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei, ZTE, Neosoft, UFIDA, Asiainfo, Shanda, and Kingsoft etc attended the event. The event excelled previous ones in respects of size and capacity.
The main forum – 2007 China International Software Summit invited more senior VIPs such as Jean-Philippe Courtois President of Microsoft International, Senior Vice President, Microsoft Corp, Mr Thomas Vice President of Application Services Outsourcing (Export Services), IBM, Mr Li Deguang General Manager of HP Global Delivery China Centre, Mr Minoru Terao Senior Vice President of NEC Corporation, Mr Harley Stoll Senior Vice President of APAC Consulting of Oracle Corporation, and Mr Liu Jiren President of Neosoft etc to make keynote speeches.
2007 China International Software Summit attracted about 60 CEOs from home and abroad, claiming the most number amid forums of this kind at home in recent years. 2007 China Software Application and Service Forum attracted approximate 300 software manufacturers, governmental officials, and corporate users. It’s believed that the event played a significant role in boosting informatisation at home this year. Mr Chen Wei Director-general E-commence Promotion Dept, the Ministry of Information Industry, spoke highly of this event.
Chengdu Senior Advisor for Software Development Roundtable Meeting contracted 13 executives e.g. Mr Wang Wenhan Vice President of Intel, Mr Wang Wenjing President of UFIDA, and Xu Shaochun President of Kingdee as senior strategic advisors for Chengdu’s software development. They put out a number of constructive advices on environment building, market exploration, personnel training, and financing etc.
2007 China-EU Information Society Professionals Forum, 2007 China Intellectual Property right Protection Forum, GGL Digital Entertainment Lifestyle Forum, Software & Information Service Outsourcing Seminar, and Singapore Software Companies business matchmaking meeting etc provided a platform of exchange and cooperation in different channels, its effects were remarkable evident.
2) Exhibition & contest: the event employed Hall 2 of Chengdu Century City New International Convention & Exposition Centre as the venue of exhibition, attracting 118 companies e.g. Microsoft, SAP, Ericsson, Alcatel, Freescale, Shanda, Tsinghua Tongfang Co Ltd, Ourgame, Singapore Computer Systems, NCS Information, Maipu Communication, Sofmit, and Yinhai Software with a total exhibition area of 6,000 sqm. About 5,000 professionals visited the event, which was nothing short of a showcase holistically mirroring the development of software industry and related achievements over the past years. It posed an active impact on the circle of software industry at home and abroad. Both IT channels of SOHU and TOM, known as portal websites, covered the event. It’s hardly to imagine how fast CHINASOFT had grown up in Chengdu if you wouldn’t have paid a visit to the event.
On the sidelines of the event, Coca-Cola Cup IGT, WSVG, and job fair for middle/senior personnel were kicked off, with the participation of 40-odd companies e.g. IBM, ZTE, Guoteng, GOCEAN, and Beida Jade Bird etc.
2. China’s first class IT media – China Computerworld was involved in preparation and organisation of CHINASOFT in full swing. The group, known as the biggest of this kind in China, organised “2007 China International Software Summit Forum and 2007 China Software Application and Service Forum”. The successful launch of the two fairs not only brought up its holistic image and professional level to a new high, but armed it with sui generis attributes and value different from other fairs of this kind.
3. Generated a raft of achievements instrumental to the accelerated development of Chengdu’s software industry
The event witnessed the signing of nearly 10 agreements, for instance, Oracle will set up its China Consulting Service Centre and Chengdu Innovation Centre in Chengdu; Global Data Solutions (Shenzhen) Ltd with a total investment of 800 million yuan will build a relief centre, the biggest one of this kind in Asia, at Chengdu Hi-tech Industry Development Zone; Microsoft inked an agreement with Chengdu Municipal Government to jointly build pilot areas of comprehensive information service for agricultural informatisation in Chengdu; CIJ, Chengdu University of Information Technology, and Sichuan Julong Technology Co Ltd forged an agreement of staff training for Japanese outsourcing market; Chengdu Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, Northwestern Polytechnic University (USA), and TATA/CMC signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Personnel Training Abroad and Introduction, the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs is obliged to select and send Chengdu’s software talents to USA and India for further learning; QAI signed an agreement with Chengdu Hi-tech Industry Development Zone to fulfil certification service for software analyst, tester, and project manager etc in an endeavour to rev up senior staff’s capability building in Chengdu.
4. Further strengthen publicity to expand and enhance influence of Chengdu’s software industry
The event rented large outdoor advertising boards for publicity along the airport expressway in Beijing and Shanghai for the first time. 13 internet media including mainstream websites at home e.g. Sohu, TOM, QQ, and YNET as well as IT websites e.g. Computer World, ZOL, PConline, eNET, and CNII etc threw coverage of the event through feature stories, word links, and bulletins etc. Sohu, TOM, TFOL, and CDOL lived the main forum. Incomplete statistics showed that the hits of the event’s official website and links reached 300,000 person-times.
During the session, 100-strong reporters from 60 international and domestic media e.g. CCTV, People’s Daily, Computer World, and China Information World covered the event. According to incomplete statistics, there were nearly 2,000 pieces of news at all levels, among which there were over 200 reports by print media, over 130 reports by TV and broadcasting, and over 1,400 reports by internet media and for republishing. CCTV released news about this conference in the prime period of that very night when it was inaugurated that day.
